Annapolis, MD—Larry Hogan today admitted that he has no plan to lower healthcare premiums for Maryland families who are being drowned in rapidly increasing premiums.
When asked if he has a plan to lower healthcare costs today, Hogan said: “Look, we would certainly like to if we can come up with any ideas.”
“It is unacceptable that Governor Hogan has no plan to get Marylanders’ skyrocketing healthcare costs under control,” said Maryland Democratic Party chair Kathleen Matthews. “While Larry Hogan has no plan to lower healthcare costs, Ben Jealous has a bold agenda to establish a state based Medicare-for-All system to stop rising premiums and lower prescription drug prices. That’s what bold, courageous leadership looks like.”
Donald Trump’s continued healthcare sabotage is already raising rates on Maryland families. Since Hogan entered office, the average benchmark marketplace premium has exploded from $220 to $487 per month for a single person—an increase of more than 120 percent, with the majority of increases occurring under the Trump administration.
Ben’s Medicare-for-All plan builds on the successes of the Affordable Care Act and Maryland’s unique All-Payer system to stop rising premiums, lower prescription drug costs, and ensure universal coverage. Ben’s plan will pull together stakeholders and experts to make sure Maryland continues to be on the cutting edge of healthcare, no matter what happens in Washington.
