VP Biden to Headline MD Democrats’ Unity Celebration

Jun 06, 2018

Annapolis, MD — In a state where Democrats outnumber Republicans two-to-one, Maryland Democrats are committed to unity in advance of the 2018 general election. Today the Maryland Democratic Party announced that Vice President Joe Biden will keynote the party’s post-primary unity celebration on Saturday, June 30 at Camden Yards in Baltimore City.  The Democratic nominees for governor and U.S. Senate, elected on June 26, will also deliver remarks.

“Democrats are committed to unity following the primary election and are positioned to run an energized coordinated campaign to drive record turnout and elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews. “This celebration will set the tone and rally Democrats as we enter the general election to move Maryland forward with strong Democratic candidates across the state. Vice President Biden has dedicated his life to fighting for Democratic values, and I can’t think of anyone better to bring Democrats together after our primary election.”

The celebration in Baltimore will serve as the party’s marquee fundraising event for the year.  In May, the party announced that it raised more than $500,000 between January 11 and May 15 and has more than $1 million cash on hand.

The Democratic gubernatorial candidates have all agreed to endorse the nominee and will join a unity tour following the primary election, including the June 30th event with Vice-President Biden and regional unity events in Anne Arundel County, Montgomery County, Howard County, Western Maryland, and the Eastern Shore.
