Statement: President Joe Biden Begins The Work Of Building Back Better

Jan 20, 2021

MARYLANDWednesday, January 20th, the Maryland Democratic Party released the following statement after President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. signed seventeen executive orders, starting the process of building America back better:

“Today, as he delivered his inaugural address, President Joe Biden told us that he would strengthen America at home and abroad — restoring our nation’s integrity and taking on the issues facing so many. Less than six hours later, he has already started to make good on his promises. With these seventeen executive orders, President Biden has improved our standing around the globe, provided crucial COVID-19 support, and showed that we’re a nation of integrity and equality.

“By rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement and the World Health Organization, President Biden sent a message to the world that America is back, and that we can be counted on once again. This message was bolstered by his orders halting construction of the border wall, ending the “Muslim travel ban,” and defending the “Dreamers” program — showing we are still a nation that welcomes all those who would seek the American Dream.

“In his inaugural address today, President Biden made it clear that taking on the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic fallout is the top priority of his administration. The new mask and social-distancing mandates will be an incalculable boon in the ongoing fight against the pandemic. These efforts, coupled with the orders extending eviction moratoriums and continuing to halt student loan payments, is a significant step in the right direction. I look forward to seeing these efforts expanded on in President Biden’s first COVID-19 relief package.

“President Biden’s executive orders today also reinforced the American values of equality, inclusivity, and integrity. His orders will advance racial equality, end workplace discrimination based on gender or sexual orientation, and stave off corruption in our government.

“Only a few hours into the new administration, President Biden has demonstrated his commitment to building our nation back better — making it fairer and stronger than ever before. We look forward to working with the Biden-Harris administration and supporting their continued success.”
