Statement From DMV Democratic Parties on President Trump’s Reckless Behavior

Oct 07, 2020

Maryland, Virginia, and District of Columbia Today, following the news that well over one hundred Capitol workers have tested positive for COVID-19 with countless more having been exposed, the Democratic Parties of Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia released the following statement:

“We in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia are proud to be the home for thousands of Capitol workers, staff, and officials. Over the past months, our governments and parties have worked hard to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and keep our residents safe. By defying every CDC recommendation, Donald Trump’s selfish and reckless behavior has put the lives of these workers and everyone in their communities at risk,” said Democratic Chairs Yvette Lewis, Charles Wilson, and Susan Swecker. “Donald Trump’s return to the White House and clear disregard for those around him is a stark reminder of how he failed to take any responsibility for the COVID-19 pandemic or the 210,000 Americans who have lost their lives.”

“The President’s failure to follow basic safety measures risks creating broader spread throughout our communities. We urge President Trump to follow CDC guidelines, allow for full transparency, and begin contact tracing for the White House immediately.”

This statement comes as the President hosted multiple large, unmasked events at the White House — triggering widespread COVID-19 infection and exposure throughout the Trump administration and Washington Metro Area. There are currently four White House press aides, multiple senior staff, three Republican Senators, a Joint Chief, and multiple journalists who have tested positive. Even yesterday, the President did not understand the severity of the crisis, as he de-masked and re-entered the White House — putting everyone who works there at risk.
