MD Dems Elect Maya Rockeymoore Cummings as Party Chair

Dec 01, 2018

Annapolis, MD—Today, at a meeting of the Democratic State Central Committee of Maryland, Democratic central committee members elected Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings as Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party.  Rockeymoore Cummings issued the following statement thanking central committee members for electing her:

“Our party is united, our party is strong, and we are going to hit the ground running.

“This is a partnership. The central committees are filled with activists and organizers who believed in me, and I believe in them. In the years ahead, I will do everything I can to justify their trust, and continue to grow it.

“We are at our most effective when our elected officials and our party activists move in concert with one another, motivated by common ideals, and a shared belief in a Democratic Party that expands opportunity and lifts all communities.

“Over the last couple of weeks, I promised Democrats across Maryland that I would listen to them, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do. In the weeks ahead, I will continue reaching out to our committees, our elected officials, and our voters to develop my Go DEEP Plan, so that we enter the new year with a concrete plan of action, and begin making progress for Democratic victories across the state in 2020 and beyond!”

Matthews issued the following statement on thanking central committee members for two years of partnership:

“I ran for Democratic Party Chair 2 years ago after a divisive 2016 election because I was determined to serve, organize, unite our Maryland party, and win elections. After making gains up and down the ballot on Election Day 2018, Maryland Democrats have an opportunity to build on our progress to move Maryland forward.

“I stand ready to work with Dr. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings to ensure that we double down on our progress to elect Democrats statewide and in every county in Maryland. I am also excited about the dozens of rising stars who have entered the race for party leadership. This is proof that the future of the Maryland Democratic Party has never been brighter.”
