Marylanders Who Want to Give Hogan a Second Term Continue to Plummet

Apr 24, 2018

Annapolis, MD – Less than 200 days from Election Day 2018, Larry Hogan’s bid for reelection keeps losing support among Maryland voters.  A poll released today by Goucher College found that less than half of all Maryland voters—between 44 and 47 percent—are committed to voting for Hogan against a variety of Democratic candidates in November.  Today’s poll shows a double digit drop in Hogan’s support for reelection since Goucher’s February 2017 poll, which found that 57 percent of Marylanders wanted to give Hogan a second term against a Democratic candidate.

The poll also found that Maryland voters trust Democrats more on education, gun violence prevention, and the environment.

“Heading into a hostile political environment for Republicans, Governor Hogan’s reelection campaign is bleeding support,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews. “Marylanders can see that Governor Hogan has been shortchanging our students and our environment for three years, and they are ready for new leadership.  It’s becoming more and more obvious that Governor Hogan is following in the footsteps of his old boss Bob Ehrlich’s failed campaign for reelection in 2006.”

This is the fifth consecutive poll to find that Hogan’s bid for reelection is not supported by a majority of Maryland voters.  The following polls found that a majority of Marylanders would not support Governor Hogan’s bid for a second term:

·     February 2018 Goucher Poll
·     December 2017 Our Maryland poll
·     November 2017 OpinionWorks poll
·     November 2017 Mason Dixon Poll
