Maryland Democratic Party Adopts Delegate Selection Process for 2020 Convention

May 03, 2019

Annapolis, MD— The Maryland Democratic Party recently voted to adopt rules governing the Maryland delegate selection process for the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

In March the Party created an Affirmative Action Committee to help develop and design an Affirmative Action Plan and Outreach and Inclusion Program that would make recommendations to Chair Maya Rockeymoore Cummings. The Committee will also administer a financial assistance program for persons of low and moderate income to encourage their participation and representation in the national convention delegation.

The “first determining step” of Maryland’s delegate selection process will occur on April 28, 2020, with a Primary. Additional selections of At-Large Alternates will happen on May 23, 2020 and May 30, 2020.  District Level and Pledged Party Leaders and Elected Officials (PLEOs) will be selected on May 30, 2020.

According to the rules adopted, delegates will be divided between districts on the basis of population and Democratic performance in elections. Forms to apply to become a Delegate will be available at MDDems.org.
