Hogan Must Disavow Andy Harris’ “Vile” Comments About Dr. Blasey Ford

Oct 02, 2018

Annapolis, MD—The Maryland Democratic Party is calling on Larry Hogan to disavow Congressman Andy Harris’ comments about Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. During a recent interview, Harris called Dr. Blasey Ford a “troubled woman” with “psychological problems.” Baltimore Sun columnist Dan Rodricks called Harris’ comments “vile” in a recent column.

“I would like to say that I’m surprised by Congressman Harris’ reprehensible comments about Dr. Blasey Ford but for him, they are just more of the same from a man who has clearly lost touch with his constituents,” said Maryland Democratic Party spokesperson Fabion Seaton. “Governor Hogan must immediately disavow Congressman Harris after these vile comments and he must finally tell Marylanders if he believes Dr. Blasey Ford. Survivors in Maryland deserve to know that when they come forward, they will be believed and supported by Maryland’s leaders.”

In the more than 96 hours since Dr. Blasey Ford testified, Hogan has refused calls to state clearly and unequivocally if he believes Dr. Blasey Ford’s earnest, convincing and credible allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Hogan’s silence was joined by the White House yesterday, when Kellyanne Conway refused to say if President Trump believes Dr. Blasey Ford and questioned the veracity of Dr. Blasey Ford’s testimony.

While Hogan appears to have doubts about Dr. Blasey Ford’s testimony, Republican Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker made his position clear, telling reporters, “I believe Professor Ford.”
