Annapolis, MD — Today, Larry Hogan released a new web video in an effort to hide his record blocking clean energy and clean water. The truth is, Hogan has taken repeated actions to weaken environmental protections and do the bidding of corporate polluters.
“Larry Hogan has repeatedly sided with corporate polluters, whether it was vetoing the Democrats’ clean energy jobs bill or blocking regulations to reduce dirty coal and protect our Chesapeake Bay waters. No wonder he was sued by the Sierra Club,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews. “Maryland voters want a governor who can create jobs without jeopardizing our clean air and water, and unfortunately Larry Hogan has failed on both fronts.
Hogan’s environmental record:
- Larry Hogan vetoed the Clean Energy Jobs Act, which would boost renewable energy targets and create thousands of clean energy jobs. Fortunately Democrats overrode the veto.
- Hogan was sued by Sierra Club, Chesapeake Physicians for Social Responsibility and Earthjustice in 2015 for blocking coal-burning power plant regulations
- On his first day as governor, Hogan repaid Mountaire Farms—a corporate polluter—for their $250,000 2014 contribution to Republican Governor Association which paid for TV ads by weakening key anti-pollution regulations to protect the Chesapeake Bay
- The Hogan’s administration prosecution of environmental crimes at a 20-year low
