Annapolis, MD â Yesterday, Marylanders learned for the first time that 1,500 rounds of high-caliber assault weapon ammunition went missing during the Maryland National Guardâs 2015 deployment in Baltimore. According to news reports, Maryland officials were âimmediatelyâ made aware of the missing ammunition three years ago, yet Marylanders were kept completely in the dark until WBAL broke the story yesterday.
Â
âAs Maryland Democrats work hard to pass legislation to keep our neighborhoods safe from gun violence, we now learn of a Hogan administration cover-up of massive amounts of lost ammunition in the streets of Baltimore,â said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews. âGovernor Hogan needs to come clean with Marylanders about why this was kept quiet for 3 years, despite the clear threat to public safety. Maryland voters deserve to know how, and why, 1,500 rounds of high-caliber ammunition were lost on the streets of Baltimore, and Governor Hogan needs to explain why this was covered up.â
