Anti-Choice Republicans Who Support a National Abortion Ban Agree: They Need Larry Hogan in Senate
âItâll mean the difference between being in the minority or majorityâ
Anti-choice Republicans are continuing to rally behind Republican Larry Hogan, who they say is key to securing a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate. Personally recruited by Republican leader Mitch McConnell, Hogan will caucus with Republicans and turn control of the U.S. Senate over to Republicans so they can push forward their extreme agenda, including a nationwide abortion ban.
See for yourself:
- Anti-Choice Republican Leader Mitch McConnell: âWe need more Republicans in order to set the agenda. So I support⌠Hogan.â (Politico, 6/4/24)
- Anti-Choice Texas Senator John Cornyn: âI hope Larry Hogan wins. Itâll mean the difference between being in the minority or majority ⌠And if President Trump wins, as I expect he will, we will all prefer to be in the majority.â (CNNâs Manu Raju, 6/3/24)
- Anti-Choice Missouri Republican Senator and Trump Ally Eric Schmitt, who issued the first trigger abortion ban in the country to go into effect after Roe fell: âI want him to win.â (The Hill, 6/4/24)
- Anti-Choice North Carolina Senator Tom Tillis: âWhat we donât want to do is have a scenario where we win the White House and we donât have a majority in the Senate. That would make no sense at all. President Trump would get nothing done.â (Punchbowl News, 6/4/24)
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Larry Hogan also has a well-documented and extensive record opposing abortion rights:

Larry Hogan vetoed a measure Friday that would expand access to abortion in the state by ending a restriction that only physicians can provide them and requiring most insurance plans to cover abortion care without cost.â

Axios: Maryland governor says he won’t release money for abortion training. âMaryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said he will withhold $3.5 million in state funds budgeted to train new abortion providers in the state.â
- Hogan will not commit to supporting judges who will uphold abortion rights. New York Times: After winning Marylandâs Republican Party nomination, Hogan refuses to commit to opposing judges who would further threaten Marylandersâ reproductive rights. âOn Thursday, Mr. Hogan said that he would not⌠use a judgeâs prior rulings or views on abortion as a âlitmus testâ when deciding whether to confirm nominees.â
