Trump’s VP Pick: Wrong for America, Wrong for Maryland
Annapolis, Md. – Maryland Democratic Party Executive Director Chuck Conner today released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s running mate announcement.
“Donald Trump doubled down on the divisiveness that has defined his campaign by adding Governor Mike Pence to his presidential ticket. There’s no pivot here. Trump has made it very clear that his vision for America is one that divides our nation and harms the country’s reputation abroad.
Trump has run on building an economy that puts corporate interests ahead of hardworking Americans and their families. His comments about women, Muslim Americans, immigration, LGBTQ rights and African-American communities show that he’s on the wrong side of history. So it should come as no surprise that his running mate shares the same outdated, divisive ideas.
Trump’s inexperience and Pence’s disastrous record in his home state of Indiana is a toxic mix that will derail the progress we’ve made under the leadership of President Obama and Democrats. The choice is clear: Americans can’t risk Trump and Pence in the White House.”
