TRUMP’S ALT-RIGHT APPOINTMENT SETS DANGEROUS PRECEDENT
Annapolis, Md. – In response to yesterday’s announcement that President-Elect Donald Trump has named Steve Bannon as his “senior counselor,” Maryland Democratic Party Executive Director Chuck Conner issued the following statement:
“We should all be alarmed by the news that President-Elect Trump has named a man who peddles hateful rhetoric as a top advisor in the White House. As executive chairman of the Brietbart News website, Steve Bannon stoked the flames of racism, anti-Semitism, anti-immigrant sentiment and misogyny. Now, he will have the ear of our next president. On election night Trump promised to be a president for all people. In naming Bannon as an advisor, President-Elect Trump has shown he lacks the moral compass to do so.
Regardless of political affiliation, Americans should be deeply concerned about Trump inviting this type of divisiveness into the White House. We cannot sit quietly and allow the Alt-Right movement to become normalized in our society and American politics. Republican leaders must denounce this appointment as well as the spree of attacks nationwide and racist vandalism in our state following Tuesday’s election.”
