MARYLAND — Wednesday, January 20th, the Maryland Democratic Party released the following statement after President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. and Vice President Kamala Devi Harris took the oath of office, making him the 46th President of the United States, and her the 49th Vice President of the United States:
“This is a historic day for our country. Today, as President Biden and Vice President Harris take the oath of office, we start a new chapter in American history; one defined by healing, a restoration of shared values, and a united goal of building our nation back stronger. As President Biden delivered his remarks today, he showed the entire world that America is back — better and fairer than ever.
“This new administration and Congress bring with them an immense sense of hope; hope that we can build our country back, fight the COVID-19 pandemic, and address the pressing issues facing our people. As Americans and Marylanders, we must match this hope with determination, and rise to the opportunity — casting aside differences, strengthening America together. Under this new leadership, and with the challenges that lie ahead, we can no longer afford to become deadlocked over partisan divisions or past conflicts. We must rise above the day-to-day political fray and deliver real results for those who are in need.
“We can revitalize our economy, create good-paying union jobs, provide quality, affordable health care, fight the climate crisis, ensure racial justice, invest in our children’s futures, and so much more — but only if we are united in our resolve. The grit and spirit of Americans and Marylanders have never failed when times get tough, and we know it will not fail us now.
“Today, we also celebrate the inauguration of our first African American, Asian American, woman Vice President, and recognize all those who have made this historic victory possible. None of this could have been possible without our incredible volunteers and donors, along with our extraordinary state, local, and federal officials. We look forward to working with the Biden-Harris administration and supporting their continued success.”
