Annapolis, MD — Following a report from the Baltimore Sun that Governor Larry Hogan is withholding funding for Attorney General Brian Frosh’s efforts to protect Marylanders from the destructive Trump Agenda, Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews is calling on Hogan to stop defending President Donal Trump’s hurtful agenda and fully-fund the Attorney General’s office.
“I am calling on Governor Hogan to fully-fund Attorney General Frosh’s efforts to protect Marylanders from Trump’s harmful policies,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews. “After spending the first year of the Donald Trump’s presidency ducking and dodging the destructive Trump agenda, Governor Hogan is now playing defense attorney for the president.”
Last year, Democrats in the Maryland General Assembly passed measures to give Frosh the authority to sue the Trump administration and provided the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) with an addition $1 million in funding and five attorneys to cover the additional workload. Instead of providing the new funding in this year’s budget, Hogan is suggesting that OAG redirect vital resources from its Office of Consumer Protection, which protects Maryland consumers from predatory companies, to the pay for Frosh’s lawsuits.
Hogan spent Trump’s first year in office failing to stand up for Marylanders against the destructive Trump agenda. Last week, the party release a one-pager Hogan’s failure to fight for Maryland.
Attorney General Frosh has been on the front lines of the fight to hold the Trump administration accountable and protect Marylanders from Trump. Frosh is leading a lawsuit against Trump’s violation of the Emoluments Clause and he has sued the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision to repeal emissions regulations.
