Maryland Democratic Party Welcomes The Second Gentleman

Mar 30, 2021

Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff Visited Silver Spring with Rep. Jamie Raskin

MARYLAND Tuesday, March 30th, the Maryland Democratic Party welcomes Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, husband of Vice President Kamala Harris to the state. Emhoff, the first ever second gentleman, visited the Mary’s Center health care facility in Silver Spring. He was joined by Rep. Jamie Raskin and Maryland health care workers.

The visit is part of the Biden-Harris administration’s Help is Here tour promoting the American Rescue Plan — the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that provides Maryland over $6.3 billion in state and local relief. The package specifically included tens of billions in funding for local health care facilities like Mary’s Center — which will receive $11 million, almost $70 billion for vaccine distribution, and will cut child poverty in half this year alone.

The Second Gentleman’s trip today shows the importance of the American Rescue Plan, and emphasizes the absurdity that Governor Hogan and Rep. Harris opposed the package, with Hogan saying I don’t think I would have [voted for it] and Rep. Harris repeatedly voting against the life-saving legislation.

“I’m thrilled that the Second Gentleman visited Maryland with Rep. Raskin and met with our extraordinary health care workers,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Yvette Lewis. “It’s been a difficult year for our state, but thanks to the hard work of the Biden-Harris administration and the efforts of Maryland’s Congressional Delegation, help is here. Today’s visit by Second Gentleman Emhoff highlights the importance of the American Rescue Plan and how it will put more money in pockets and shots in arms.”
