Hogan: “Not My Job” to Stand Up to Trump. Really?

Nov 27, 2017

Annapolis, MD – Governor Larry Hogan is abdicating  his responsibility to represent Marylanders, says the Maryland Democratic Party. When asked about standing up to President Donald Trump’s destructive policies in an interview on WCBC-AM posted today, Governor Hogan’s response: “that’s not my job.”

“If Governor Hogan does not think that fighting to protect Marylanders from healthcare sabotage and tax hikes is a part of his job, then perhaps he should look for a new one,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews. “Marylanders deserve a governor who will fight for them, and at the ballot box next year, they will remember that when Republicans were raising their taxes and threatening their healthcare, Governor Hogan said it wasn’t his job.”

Despite Marylanders begging him to join the fight to save the ACA, Hogan has refused to follow the lead of Republican governors like Brian Sandoval, John Kasich and Charlie Baker, who have been on the frontlines of the fight.  As of today, nearly 2 months after the Republican Congress allowed CHIP funding to lapse, Hogan still has not announced a plan to protect Maryland children.  And unlike Governor Charlie Baker of Massachusetts, who has opposed the GOP’s tax scam, Hogan has not lifted a finger to prevent Congress from raising taxes on hundreds of thousands of Maryland families.
