Hogan Must Disavow Andy Harrisā€™ ā€œVileā€ Comments About Dr. Blasey Ford

Oct 02, 2018

Annapolis, MDā€”The Maryland Democratic Party is calling on Larry Hogan to disavow Congressman Andy Harrisā€™ comments about Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. During a recent interview, Harris called Dr. Blasey Ford a ā€œtroubled womanā€ with ā€œpsychological problems.ā€ Baltimore Sun columnist Dan Rodricks called Harrisā€™ comments ā€œvileā€ in a recent column.

ā€œI would like to say that Iā€™m surprised by Congressman Harrisā€™ reprehensible comments about Dr. Blasey Ford but for him, they are just more of the same from a man who has clearly lost touch with his constituents,ā€ said Maryland Democratic Party spokesperson Fabion Seaton. ā€œGovernor Hogan must immediately disavow Congressman Harris after these vile comments and he must finally tell Marylanders if he believes Dr. Blasey Ford. Survivors in Maryland deserve to know that when they come forward, they will be believed and supported by Marylandā€™s leaders.ā€

In the more than 96 hours since Dr. Blasey Ford testified, Hogan has refused calls to state clearly and unequivocally if he believes Dr. Blasey Fordā€™s earnest, convincing and credible allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Hoganā€™s silence was joined by the White House yesterday, when Kellyanne Conway refused to say if President Trump believes Dr. Blasey Ford and questioned the veracity of Dr. Blasey Fordā€™s testimony.

While Hogan appears to have doubts about Dr. Blasey Fordā€™s testimony, Republican Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker made his position clear,Ā telling reporters, ā€œI believe Professor Ford.ā€
