Annapolis, MDâThe Maryland Democratic Party is calling on Governor Larry Hogan to state clearly and unequivocally that he believes Dr. Christine Blasey Fordâs allegations of sexual assault against Judge Brett Kavanaugh.Â
On Thursday, Dr. Ford delivered testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee that was earnest, convincing and credible, but a day later Republicans on the Committee voted along party lines to advance Brett Kavanaughâs nomination to the Senate floor. While many Republicans have doubted Dr. Blasey Ford, Republican Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker made his position clear, telling reporters, âI believe Professor Ford.â
âWhile Senate Republicans have shown survivors across the nation that they do not stand by Dr. Blasey Ford after her powerful testimony, Governor Hogan has an opportunity to state clearly and unequivocally that he believes Professor Ford,â said Maryland Democratic Party chair Kathleen Matthews. âWhile we await the results of the FBI investigation into these allegations, Marylanders deserve to know if Governor Hogan stands with Dr. Blasey Ford.â
Examples of Republicans doubting the veracity of Dr. Blasey Fordâs testimony follow:
- Hogan-endorsed Republican nominee for Pennsylvania Senate Scott Wagner said he was âshocked and appalledâ by Kavanaughâs treatment and that Democratsâ âonly wish is the destruction of a duly elected president.â
- Republican nominee for Oregon governor Knute Buehler refused to say he believes Dr. Blasey Ford, saying that âso much uncertaintyâ has been âintroduced into the process.â
- Republican Senator Roger Wicker said, âI believe Judge Kavanaugh.â
