Maryland Leaders Congratulate Democratic Senate Nominee Angela Alsobrooks
Maryland Democrats unite against Republican Larry Hogan
Political leaders from across Maryland are congratulating Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Angela Alsobrooks, vowing to remain united against Mitch McConnellâs handpicked Senate candidate, Republican nominee Larry Hogan.
Below are statements released tonight from political leaders from across the Free State:
âCongratulations to Angela Alsobrooks, who will be the next senator from Maryland. She will make the difference in keeping a Democratic majority in the Senate and restoring reproductive rights,â said U.S. Senator Ben Cardin. âBoth Angela Alsobrooks and David Trone ran strong campaigns that upheld Democratic values. I am confident that Marylanders will come together now to protect womenâs rights, increase public safety, and maintain a Democratic majority that will hold the line against Republican extremists. A vote for any Republican candidate for senator is a vote for a Republican-controlled Senate, and the country cannot afford for that to happen. Letâs do this!â
âMarylanders made their voices heard, and now Angela Alsobrooks will lead our charge to keep Maryland blue and ensure that Marylanders’ values are represented in the Senate. We know that any vote for Larry Hogan is a vote for turning the Senate over to MAGA Republicans,â said U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen. “Our state doesn’t support an abortion ban and voters here know the dangers of a Republican majority in the U.S. Senate. Iâm grateful that both Angela Alsobrooks and David Trone made that clear in their campaigns â and I know that by working together, Maryland Democrats will win in November.â
âIâve been so proud to be on Angela Alsobrooksâ team since day one because I know she is the leader we need in this moment,â said Maryland Governor Wes Moore. âDuring her time as Stateâs Attorney Prince George’s County saw a 50% reduction in violent crime, they built 10 news schools, and we brought the new FBI Headquarters to her countyâthose are the real results we can expect to see when she becomes Marylandâs next Senator.â
âElections bring out fierce competition, and this one was no exception. I want to thank Congressman Trone for not only raising his hand to serve, but for the continued work he continues to provide Maryland. I know he and Democrats across the state from this moment on will be united to defeat Mitch McConnellâs rubber stamp, the Old Governor, Larry Hogan,â Governor Moore continued.
âOur work is just getting started,â said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Ken Ulman. âI extend my congratulations to Angela Alsobrooks and my gratitude to David Trone. Both candidates ran spirited campaigns that engaged thousands across the state about whatâs at stake this November: control of the U.S. Senate. Now, itâs time to come together to defeat Mitch McConnellâs favorite recruit, Republican Larry Hogan, and prevent Senate Republicans from passing their extremist agenda â including a nationwide abortion ban.â
âAngela Alsobrooks and David Trone are both public servants who are dedicated to serving our state effectively,â said Maryland Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller. âDemocrats understand the threat Republican Larry Hogan represents to Marylandersâ fundamental freedoms, including a womanâs right to choose. I know that Angela Alsobrooks and David Trone will be united in ensuring we defeat Larry Hogan and elect Democrats up and down the ballot.â
âMitch McConnell knows the path to the Senate majority runs through Maryland,â said Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown. âThatâs why he and other far-right Republicans hand-selected Republican Larry Hogan to run for Senate. They think they can fool Marylanders â but we can see right through this ploy to hand the Senate over to Republicans. Maryland Democrats are united in stopping a Republican takeover.â
âMaryland Democrats are not going to let Mitch McConnellâs handpicked candidate turn control of the U.S. Senate over to Republicans,â said U.S. Representative Dutch Ruppersberger. âWeâre committed to defeating Republican Larry Hogan and protecting Marylanders from MAGA extremists running Washington.â
âThe U.S. Senate majority is on the line,â said U.S. Representative John Sarbanes. âAny vote for Republican Larry Hogan is a vote to turn the Senate over to Republicans so they can push forward their extreme agenda, including a nationwide abortion ban. Maryland Democrats are committed to working together to defeat Republican Larry Hogan.â
âMaryland Democrats know the stakes of this yearâs Senate election,â said U.S. Representative Glenn Ivey. âTogether, weâll make sure Republican Larry Hogan doesnât hand the Senate over to Republicans who want to ban abortion nationwide. Weâre united in stopping Republican Larry Hogan.â
âMaryland Democrats, at every level, are committed to our shared mission of ensuring we send a Democrat to the U.S. Senate, and maintain our majority,â said U.S. Representative Steny H. Hoyer. âTogether, weâll continue working to bring together Marylanders in every corner of the state to help elect a leader who will protect women’s reproductive freedom, lower costs for families, and address the epidemic of gun violence. Angela Alsobrooks is the only candidate in this race who will deliver for Maryland families.â
âWe are in the fight of our lives in 2024. Democracy itself is on the line and freedom is on the ballot. The path to holding the U.S. Senate runs right through Maryland,â said U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin. âWe need all hands on deck and everybody focused on victory. Both Angela Alsobrooks and David Trone ran aggressive, top-tier campaigns, each warning the people of Maryland that Mitch McConnellâs handpicked candidate, Republican Larry Hogan, will just be another brick in the wall for Trumpâs MAGA rule in Washington. Maryland Democrats, Independents, and anti-MAGA Republicans are coming together to fight for strong democracy, women’s freedom and equality, and weâre not going to let our state or nation go backwards.â
âMaryland Democrats wonât let Republican Larry Hogan flip the Senate,â said Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. âTogether, weâll make sure Marylanders know the truth: Mitch McConnell hand-selected Republican Larry Hogan to secure a Republican-controlled Senate and ban abortion nationwide.â
