Maryland Dems Deliver HUGE WIN For Maryland Students

Gov. Moore Announces Since 2023 Maryland’s Teacher Vacancy Rate Has Dropped By Over Half

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Today, after years of record funding from Maryland Democrats, Governor Wes Moore announced the teacher vacancy rate in Maryland has dropped by 58% since 2023.

“Governor Wes Moore is showing everyone that he is the Education Governor,” said Steuart Pittman, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party. “Democrats in the Maryland General Assembly have shown up for our students across the state and it’s showing results–nearly every single grade has made improvements in reading and math scores, and we’re not stopping there.”

In 2023, the General Assembly passed the Governor’s Maryland Educator Shortage Reduction Act, and now, just three years later, we have seen a massive reduction in the teacher vacancy rate.

For three years in a row, Governor Moore and the Maryland General Assembly have put record funding in K-12 education including an historic $9.8 billion investment this year in K–12 schools. Maryland Democrats will continue that fight to continue the results we’ve seen and ensure our children have access to the best public education possible.
