Hogan has a history of putting the Republican Party before Marylanders
Welcome to “Larry Hogan: Republicans’ Dream Senate Majority-Maker,” an update on the latest news on self-described “lifelong Republican” Larry Hogan. Hogan, who was recruited by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and vows to caucus with Republicans, would be the 51st seat Republicans need to win control of the U.S. Senate and push forward an agenda that’s out of step with Marylanders, including a nationwide abortion ban.
Marylanders are reading about how Republican Larry Hogan’s rhetoric doesn’t match his record…
- NEW REPORTING: The Baltimore Banner reports Republican Larry Hogan has a record of putting the GOP ahead of Marylanders: “The state’s former top attorney recalled dozens of times where Hogan could have stood up to Trump but repeatedly chose to stand down. Instead, lawmakers had to change state law, giving Frosh the unilateral authority to sue the Trump administration and cutting Hogan out of the process.”
- REACTIONS ROLL IN: Maryland leaders who know Republican Larry Hogan’s record as a proud, self-described “lifelong Republican” are sounding the alarm that Hogan could be the 51st seat Republicans need to take control of the Senate:
- Senator Ben Cardin: “Marylanders can tell the truth from fiction. We need a senator who actually will defend our democracy. The path to the Senate majority runs through Maryland. We know that only Angela Alsobrooks will safeguard our freedoms while keeping the Senate in Democratic hands. I’m proud to support her campaign.”
- Governor Wes Moore: “The Old Governor will empower a Republican majority that will take us backwards. Angela Alsobrooks is the leader we need at this time to take our state and our country into the future, the leader we need at this time to defend our freedoms, and the leader we need at this time to fight for our families.”
- Speaker Adrienne Jones: “Larry Hogan will vote with Republicans to determine the next Senate majority leader. He’ll vote with them to confirm new extreme Supreme Court justices, to instate a national abortion ban, and to defund organizations like Planned Parenthood. Despite the rhetoric he uses in his ads, I know Larry Hogan, and we can’t trust him on these issues.”
- THE VIEW FROM FROSH, VAN HOLLEN, RASKIN, AND IVEY: Former Attorney General Frosh, Senator Chris Van Hollen, Rep. Jamie Raskin, and Rep. Glenn Ivey participated in a press call Friday to continue making the case that Larry Hogan has a record of putting the Republican Party first and will hand control of the Senate – and its agenda – to Republicans if elected. WATCH.
- MEANWHILE, HOGAN HOLDS ANOTHER FUNDRAISER WITH REPUBLICANS WHO WANT TO BAN ABORTION: Republican Larry Hogan held a fundraiser this week alongside former Maryland officials who tried to ban abortion in the Free State. Tuesday’s event came less than a week after Hogan held a fundraiser in Tennessee – which has one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the country – headlined by anti-abortion rights Senator Marsha Blackburn.
- SPEAKING OF HOGAN’S ANTI-ABORTION RECORD… Baltimore Sun: Maryland Lawmakers Backing Angela Alsobrooks Recount Abortion Battle with Larry Hogan: statement from 58 current or former state lawmakers who served with Larry Hogan: “Any notion from Larry Hogan that he didn’t restrict access to abortion is categorically false. We know firsthand about Larry Hogan’s record on reproductive freedoms, because we’re the women who fought back when he vetoed legislation to expand access to abortion.”
