Local Political Scientist Slams Larry Hogan For Silence After Trump ShutdownÂ
ANNAPOLIS, MD â Yesterday, Professor John Dedie, a local political scientist, slammed Larry Hogan on his Substack noting that âTrumpâs actions against Maryland have created a lot of silence from the former Governor.â
For months Hogan has teased a potential gubernatorial run, and has even written opinion pieces about protecting the far-rightâs majority in Washington, but now as Donald Trump uproots the lives of countless Marylanders his voice is nowhere to be found.
âAt times while governor, Larry Hogan liked to use a famous John Kennedy quote, âSometimes party loyalty asks too much,â said Professor John Dedie. âMaybe now we need to remind the former Governor about a book Senator John Kennedy wrote called, âProfiles in Courageâ.â
Trump led the charge to fire over 15,000 Marylanders, cut a quarter of a billion dollars from Maryland’s rural hospitals, take health care away from nearly 200,000 Marylanders, and hurt 684,000 Marylanders that rely on food assistance to pay for their groceries.
While Larry Hogan has been silent, Governor Wes Moore has been working. Since taking office, Governor Moore has added nearly 100,000 jobs in the State of Maryland, more jobs created in two and half years than Hogan created in his eight years combined. Following news of the shutdown he announced three immediate actions to support Marylanders:
-
State agencies will employ contingency plans that will help make sure federal programs continue to operate in our state, for now.
-
The state will work with the private sector to shield federal workers impacted by this shutdown from eviction, foreclosure, and utility shutoffs.
-
Maryland will protect and expand emergency assistance programs for federal employees.
The Moore-Miller Administration has provided a website which outlines resources available to impacted federal employees and contractors that can be found here.
