MARYLAND — Republican gubernatorial nominee Dan Cox often uses law enforcement as a rhetorical crutch on the campaign trail. A closer look at his record, however, shows he did not do the bare minimum to earn the support of law enforcement over the course of this campaign and that he is willing to turn his back on law enforcement the instant doing so is the most politically convenient path for him.
Here are the facts:

Wes Moore was endorsed by the Maryland Fraternal Order of Police, who praised his “military background [and] deep understanding for the needs of people that wear a uniform.” In stark contrast, Dan Cox was scheduled to speak to the FOP the day before Moore but did not bother to show up to meet with them.

After news broke that the FBI executed a court-approved search of former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, Cox rushed to social media and immediately attacked law enforcement in order to blindly defend Trump.

When insurrectionists attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, as Cox pandered to his hardcore base by denouncing Vice President Pence as a traitor, Gov. Larry Hogan authorized sending the Maryland National Guard to help. Cox, by contrast, has already vowed to use law enforcement in a partisan matter if elected.
- Cox was complicit in the January 6, 2021 attempt to overthrow our government, an act of domestic terrorism that led to several deaths and injuries to about 150 police officers.

Cox has promoted a radical tax plan which would dismantle the state budget and lead to brutal cuts to essential services, threatening law enforcement funding by eliminating over $12 billion in tax revenue.
