Annapolis, Md. – Over two years ago, Governor Larry Hogan promised on day one to declare a state of emergency on Maryland’s growing heroin and opioid crisis.
Since making that promise, there have been more than 1,600 heroin-related and 1,000 fentanyl-related deaths in Maryland.
While today’s announcement is a good start, Hogan owes Marylanders answers on how he plans to protect another tool for fighting the heroin and opioid epidemic – the Affordable Care Act. Repeal of the ACA would gut states’ efforts in combating the crisis.

“It took two years and 2,600 deaths for Governor Larry Hogan to finally follow through on what he promised to do on day one.”
“While Governor Larry Hogan’s announcement today is a good start after two years of delay, Marylanders deserve to know how Hogan plans to defend another tool in fighting the heroin and combat epidemic – the Affordable Care Act – which has been a centerpiece in combating the crisis.”
