Harris’ Hypocrisy on Health Care Coverage

Feb 17, 2017

Annapolis, MD – When concerned about his own healthcare coverage in 2010, Congressman Andy Harris was able to ask those in charge directly about his situation. But now, Harris is denying his constituents the same opportunity.

Earlier this week, Maryland Congressman Andy Harris announced that he was bailing on in-person townhalls “until Republicans announce a plan to replace the [Affordable Care Act] law.”

But remember that back in 2010 during a benefits session for House Republican freshmen, Harris asked those in charge “why his government-subsidized health care plan takes a month to kick in.”

Harris can’t ignore reality. A significant number of Marylanders in Harris’ congressional district have obtained health care coverage through the Affordable Care Act.

Not only is Harris avoiding his constituents, he even attempted to discredit his constituent critics. But Congressman Andy Harris isn’t the only Maryland Republican quashing constituent criticism.

Governor Hogan and his team were caught recently deleting anti-Trump comments and banning his Trump critics on his official Facebook. In total, more than 450 critics have been blocked from Hogan’s page over the past two years.

Maryland Democratic Party spokesperson Bryan Lesswing released the following statement:

“When concerned about his own healthcare coverage, Congressman Andy Harris was able to ask those in charge directly about his situation. But now, Harris is denying his constituents the same opportunity.”

“Governor Hogan and Congressman Harris can’t silence critics and hide from their constituents for long — Marylanders will find them and make their voices heard.”
