Organizing Director Job Description

 

The Maryland Democratic Party’s Coordinated Campaign is seeking an experienced Organizing Director for the 2026 general election cycle. The Organizing Director is responsible for building and managing the campaign’s statewide organizing team, organizing strategy, and its execution. The Organizing Director will report directly to the Coordinated Campaign Director. This is not an entry-level position, and all candidates should possess several cycles of campaign field experience. Candidates will need to locate in Maryland and have access to an automobile to travel around the state when necessary. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and help develop the statewide direct voter contact and volunteer recruitment programs.
  • Manage and develop Regional Field Directors and the Training/GOTV Director, providing regular coaching, accountability, and strategic guidance.
  • Establish and enforce daily and weekly field metrics in coordination with the Training and GOTV Director and the data team.
  • Interface with all internal teams, including the data team, all necessary information has been shared across departments. 
  • Ensure organizers have all of the necessary information including the targeting, turf, and reporting tools they need.
  • Manage the integration of Traditional, Impact, and Campus Field Organizers into a coherent statewide program.
  • Coordinate with Caucus field teams to implement the operational delineation agreed upon at the leadership level.
  • Lead frequent organizing team meetings and ensure consistent communication across regional teams.
  • Contribute to GOTV planning and execution in partnership with the Training and GOTV Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully relate to activists, elected officials, volunteers, and voters from a wide range of backgrounds;
  • At least three cycles of significant campaign and/or field experience (Previously held Organizing Director or Deputy Organizing Director position is a bonus);
  • Experience with hiring, managing, and training a sizable team;
  • Experience developing, executing, and evaluating large-scale organizing programs;
  • Strong proficiency with Votebuilder/VAN, and other Democratic technologies;
  • Must be able to work independently and in team settings;
  • Must be able to work long and irregular hours as needed including weekends;
  • Creative thinking and a “can-do” attitude for problem-solving;
  • Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, reliable access to a car, and a laptop
  • Ability to lift/carry campaign materials

Employment Type: Full-time

Compensation: This position is non-exempt, at a rate of $8,000-$9,000 per month with benefits, commensurate with experience. This position is at-will employment. 

Start Date: This position’s start date is July 1, 2026. This position is based in Annapolis, MD during in-person work days.
