Zeldin’s EPA Betrayal of Maryland: $3.4 Million in Canceled Environmental Grants and Rollback of Life-Saving Protections

As Zeldin Fundraises for Maryland Republicans, His EPA Policies Have Poisoned Maryland’s Air and Water While Canceling Millions in Community Grants

Baltimore, MD – As Lee Zeldin prepares to headline a Maryland Republican Party fundraiser in Baltimore, new data reveal the devastating impact his leadership at the Environmental Protection Agency has had on Maryland communities. Since taking office, Zeldin’s EPA has canceled over $3.4 million in critical environmental grants for Maryland communities and systematically rolled back protections that safeguard the air Marylanders breathe and the water they drink.

Zeldin’s war on environmental protection has directly harmed Maryland families through canceled grants that would have addressed pollution from coal-fired power plants, helped communities with contaminated drinking water, and strengthened environmental justice efforts across the state. His agency has also weakened protections against toxic PFAS chemicals, rolled back clean air standards, and made it easier for polluters to contaminate Maryland’s environment.

“Lee Zeldin is coming to Maryland with his hand out, asking Republicans to fund his political agenda while his EPA policies poison our communities and steal millions in federal funding from Maryland families,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Steuart Pittman. “Zeldin has betrayed Maryland voters by canceling critical environmental grants, weakening protections against toxic chemicals, and rolling back clean air standards that were expected to save over 1,000 lives annually in our state. His reckless policies are putting profits over people, and Maryland families are paying the price.”
