Democratic candidates for Annapolis mayor and all eight City Council seats have taken the lead in this year’s general election after some mail-in ballots were counted Thursday.

As of Tuesday night, when Election Day in-person votes were counted, Democrats were ahead in all but one contest: the race for Ward 1 alderperson.

With the added mail-in votes, they’ve maintained their leads in races across the city and surged into the lead in Ward 1.

In Frederick, Democrats lead every race after in-person ballots counted in the general election.

Democratic Mayor Michael O’Connor and Democratic City Council candidates built wide leads on Thursday after the first day of counting mail-in and drop-off ballots in Frederick’s general election.

O’Connor now has 5,127 votes to his Republican opponent Tom Trott’s 2,002.

Only City Council Districts 4 and 5 were contested, with the remaining five council seats each having a single Democrat running for them.

In District 4, Scott Lasher, a Democrat, has 1,649 votes to Republican Joe Adkins’ 767. District 4 takes up part of downtown, as well as the city’s northeastern portion.

In District 5, Democratic candidate Sarah Hempel Irani leads with 1,040 votes to 515 for her Republican opponent, Rob Callahan.

Congressman Mfume Launched Probe Into The Trump Administration

Baltimore Rep. Kweisi Mfume called Monday for a “full and honest” congressional review of how Social Security Administration Commissioner Frank Bisignano’s former company won a huge contract overseeing a debit card program serving millions of  Social Security beneficiaries.

Mfume’s request came as more congressional Democrats—and former agency Commissioner Martin O’Malley—raised questions about what Commissioner Frank Bisignano knew and whether he should have disclosed that the company stood to benefit from the contract.

Governor Moore announced 125 new jobs coming to Frederick through a new manufacturing facility of Bakery de France. This new 176,000-square-foot facility marks only the third location in the entire country for the company.

“Bakery de France’s expansion in Frederick creates a unique link between past and future—an old-world bakery using its skill and artistry to support an exciting new investment and create new jobs,” said Governor Wes Moore. “We thank Bakery de France for choosing Maryland once again, and look forward to the company’s future success and growth.”

Governor Moore Signs Executive Order To Ensure SNAP Benefits For Marylanders

Governor Wes Moore signed an Executive Order Monday to ensure Maryland SNAP recipients will continue receiving benefits through the month of November.

“One of the first and most basic priorities of governing is to ensure that families do not go hungry,” said Governor Wes Moore. “We will continue to do everything in our power to protect our people in these difficult times. But no state can fill the enormous gap created by Donald Trump and his administration. It’s time for the federal government to do its job and fully fund food assistance.”
