The Maryland Democratic Party Recognizes Memorial Day

May 31, 2021

MarylandToday, May 31st, Maryland Democratic Party Veterans Diversity Leadership Council Chair and Former Marine Corps Platoon Sergeant, Edward Holland, released the following statement in recognition of Memorial Day:

“Today, on Memorial Day, I would ask Marylanders to join me in honoring the memory of all the men and women who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our nation. From the fields of Lexington and Gettysburg, to the frozen forests of Ardennes and the mountains of Afghanistan; these proud Americans gave their lives to protect our fundamental freedoms and defend our democratic values.

“We are not only forever indebted to these servicemembers — but to their families, friends, and loved ones. Our country is strong, and our people are free because of them.

“Memorial Day is also a day for reflection. As our country faces threats unlike any we’ve seen before, today is a stark reminder of what brings us together as Americans. We must rededicate ourselves to the promises of democracy and in honor of those who sacrificed to make our way of life possible.

“I hope we can take the day to reflect and remember these servicemen and women who gave everything for us to be here — it’s the least we can do.”

“May God bless the United States of America.”
