Republicans Could Hike Your Health Premium by $1,000
Annapolis, MD – Marylanders could see their health insurance premiums skyrocket if Republicans in Congress refuse to act on Democratsā proposal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits that are set to expire. Without action, monthly premiums could surge from $621 to $1,711 for the same plan, an increase of $1,089 that would hit working families across Maryland hard.
The tax credits, first expanded under the American Rescue Plan, have helped millions of Americans afford quality health care. Their expiration would be devastating for middle-class Marylanders. Families, seniors, and small business owners depend on affordable healthcare coverage and Republicans donāt seem to care.
āRepublicans are gambling with peopleās health,ā said Karen Darkes, Executive Director of the Maryland Democratic Party. āEnding these tax credits could mean a thousand-dollar hike for working Marylanders. Democrats are fighting to keep care affordable while Republicans only look out for their billionaire donors.ā
The Maryland Democratic Party called on Donald Trump and congressional Republicans to stop holding health care hostage for partisan gain and to act immediately to extend the ACA tax credits.
āHealth care is a right, not a privilege,ā Darkes added. āWe will continue to defend that right and stand with Maryland families who are already stretched thin due to Donald Trumpās chaos.”
