Three lies in less than three days!
Republican Larry Hogan – who was personally recruited by Republican Leader Mitch McConnell to help Republicans regain control of the Senate and push forward an anti-abortion rights agenda – lied three times so far this week about his well-documented and extensive record of opposing reproductive freedom. Hogan falsely stated to CNN, the Daily Mail, and on X (formerly known as Twitter) that he’s consistently supported abortion rights – but his record tells the true story.
- Hogan vetoed measures to expand abortion access. CBS News: Maryland’s GOP Governor Larry Hogan vetoes bill to expand abortion access. “Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan vetoed a measure Friday that would expand access to abortion in the state by ending a restriction that only physicians can provide them and requiring most insurance plans to cover abortion care without cost.”
- Hogan refused to fund abortion providers in the wake of the Supreme Court’s leaked decision to overturn Roe. Axios: Maryland governor says he won’t release money for abortion training. “Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) said he will withhold $3.5 million in state funds budgeted to train new abortion providers in the state.”
- Hogan will not commit to supporting judges who will uphold abortion rights. New York Times: After winning Maryland’s Republican Party nomination, Hogan refuses to commit to opposing judges who would further threaten Marylanders’ reproductive rights. “On Thursday, Mr. Hogan said that he would not… use a judge’s prior rulings or views on abortion as a ‘litmus test’ when deciding whether to confirm nominees.”
- Hogan spent the first four months of his campaign refusing to support Roe v. Wade. NBC News: Larry Hogan declines to say whether he’d support a federal law to codify Roe v. Wade. “Former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan on Thursday declined to say whether he would vote to protect in vitro fertilization or codify Roe v. Wade into federal law if Maryland voters send him to the Senate in November.”
From Maryland Democratic Party Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly: “Republican Larry Hogan can’t hide from the fact that if elected, he could be the 51st seat Republicans need to ban abortion nationwide. His record shows he can’t be trusted to protect reproductive freedom.”
