Maryland leaders react to recommendation for Steuart Pittman to be the next Chair of the State Party

Annapolis, MD – Leaders from across the state are reacting positively to Governor Moore recommending County Executive Steuart Pittman to be the next Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party.

“Having worked alongside Steuart for years, I’ve seen his commitment to listening to Marylanders and delivering on the issues that matter most. He would be a great choice to chair our Democratic Party, where I am confident he will continue to bring people together, fight tirelessly to defend Maryland values, and confront the lawless Trump Administration,” said Senator Chris Van Hollen. “I salute Ken Ullman for working successfully to keep Maryland blue in last year’s elections and I’m excited to work with Steuart to do the same in the elections ahead.”

“Chair Ken Ulman’s leadership across our state has helped Maryland Democrats grow and thrive. I want to thank him for his partnership on my campaign. Together, we celebrated a resounding victory last fall. He has left big shoes to fill,” said Senator Angela Alsobrooks. “But I know County Executive Steuart Pittman will fill those shoes with grit, determination, and a focus on mission. His work as a community organizer is such an incredible asset to our Party. With Steuart at the helm, I know we can look forward to more resounding victories to come.”

“I know Steuart Pittman believes deeply in strong democracy, in people-powered politics, and in Democrats taking leadership to safeguard the future of Maryland,” said Congressman Jamie Raskin.“His organizing background and progressive values make him a great leader for our party into 2026 and beyond.”

“Steuart Pittman leads with compassion, but he never backs down from a fight against injustice,” said Attorney General Anthony Brown. “We worked together when I represented the 4th Congressional District, and he’s always sought partnerships that get results. As party chair, he brings the vision and courage we need.”

“Steuart Pittman has always put people over politics, and he knows how to build coalitions that get results,” said Comptroller Brooke Lierman. “His leadership will help build our party, empower the grassroots, and ensure we win elections from school board to the Congress.”

“Ken Ulman’s leadership helped elect US Senator Alsobrooks and enshrine abortion protections in our state’s constitution. Ken did it with vision, grit, and heart,” said Lt. Governor Aruna Miller. “Now, with Steuart Pittman at the helm, I couldn’t be more excited. He’s a leader who listens, inspires, and brings people together. The Maryland Democratic Party is in powerful hands.”

“I’ve watched County Executive Pittman strongly advocate for Anne Arundel County, for Maryland Democrats, and our entire State. He is a trusted leader who has shown he can win and help get Democrats elected in purple areas across Maryland,” said House Speaker Adrienne Jones. “As we approach 2026, I’m confident he’ll strengthen the Maryland Democratic Party and keep us moving forward.”

“The 2026 election will be pivotal and Steuart is a proven leader that knows how to win tough elections,” said Senate President Bill Ferguson. “I look forward to working with Steuart to maintain our Democratic majorities in the General Assembly and build the infrastructure needed to facilitate national change.”

“Steuart Pittman is a proven leader who knows how to bring Marylanders together,” said Congressman Steny Hoyer. “He has the vision and the values to move the Maryland Democratic Party forward at a critical time for our state and our country.”

“Steuart is a proven leader that has demonstrated his ability to be effective, time and time again” said Congressman Glenn Ivey. “He knows how to get things done and I know he will put in the necessary work to bring people together in a way that really strengthens the party.”

“As someone who has worked closely with Steuart, I know his commitment to service and to the people of Maryland is unmatched,” said Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth. “He’s exactly the kind of chair we need to ensure Democrats are organized across the state.”

“I was thrilled to hear the announcement of Steuart Pittman as our new Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party. While he will have very big shoes to fill given Ken Ulman’s highly successful tenure, Steuart is well suited given his ability to blend political savviness, pragmatism, and business acumen,” said Congresswoman April McClain-Delaney. “As the only member of Congress in a competitive seat, I truly appreciate his ability to navigate tough races and his prior experience as an effective Anne Arundel County Executive. Congratulations!”

“As a former County Executive, I am proud to have worked closely with Steuart Pittman and have seen firsthand how hard he works on behalf of Marylanders,” said Congressman Johnny Olszewski. “Stueart will be a powerful voice for working families and help lead Democrats to victory in 2026 – and beyond.”

“Steuart Pittman won tough races by mobilizing committed Democrats and reaching across party lines, which is exactly how we win in Frederick County,” said Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “He is a great choice to lead the Maryland Democratic Party because he won’t take anything for granted and will fight for every vote in every corner of our state.”

“Steuart Pittman is an inclusive leader who cares for all Marylanders,” said Del. Ashanti Martinez, Chair of the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus.”I’m proud to support a leader who brings people together, ensures every voice is represented, and will empower leaders who reflect the full diversity of our party. This is how we build a stronger, more inclusive future for Maryland.”

“I could not give a more enthusiastic endorsement of Steuart Pittman to be the next Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party,” said Carl Snowden, Convener of the Caucus of African American Leaders. “I have worked closely with Steuart for the past 7 years and he is a leader that listens, that shows up, and that fights for the least among us.”
