Larry Hogan Silent As Trump Fires Over 15,000 Marylanders And Potential Shutdown Looms

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Larry Hogan has time to tease about a potential campaign but when it comes to Trump firing over 15,000 Maryland federal employees and the potential government shutdown he has been silent.

“Larry Hogan wants people to believe he’s some kind of ‘maverick’ but his silence as Trump fires over 15,000 Marylanders and threatens to shut down the federal government shows he’s just like the rest of the far-right Republicans in Washington making life harder for middle class families,” said Joe Francaviglia, Deputy Executive Director of the Maryland Democratic Party. “If Hogan had any spine he would be standing up to Donald Trump on this–instead he’s showing people what we’ve known all along, he’s just another ally to Trump.”

According to the Maryland Department of Labor, Maryland has lost 15,100 federal jobs since January—more than any other state in the country. Despite that direct assault from the federal government, Maryland’s job growth rate still remains faster than the national average, and the state’s unemployment rate is lower than the national rate.

Since taking office, Governor Moore has added nearly 100,000 jobs in the State of Maryland, more jobs created in two and half years than Hogan created in his eight years combined.
