Maryland – Friday, January 15th, Maryland Democratic Party Chair Yvette Lewis released the following statement after President-elect Joe Biden announced the American Rescue Plan:
“President-elect Biden told us he would build our nation and our state back better — the American Rescue Plan shows that he will deliver on this promise. The significant economic recovery plan will provide critical support to Marylanders in need, small businesses working to stay open, and governments struggling to balance their budgets. President-elect Biden clearly understands what it will take to get our economy running safely again, and how to get our people back to work.
“I applaud President-elect Biden for increasing the direct aid checks to $2000, expanding on unemployment benefits, and for proposing a $15 an hour minimum wage — these acts will lift thousands of Marylanders out of poverty, and provide those in need with the help they deserve.
“This is only the beginning of the long process of rebuilding our state and country, but it’s an excellent start. It’s refreshing to see an administration that takes this pandemic seriously, and can successfully roll out a policy proposal.”
