Hogan Plays Toll Road Politics

May 23, 2018

Annapolis, MD — Larry Hogan is like a magician who hopes his election year slight of hand will distract voters from his costly plan to add high-priced toll lanes to Maryland highways. As he made a toll announcement this morning, Hogan failed to mention his new highway tax plan—to add toll lanes to 1-270 and I-495 —that is already mired in scandal due to Transportation Secretary Rahn’s unethical procurement practices and will force working class families to pay as much as $41 for a one-way trip from Frederick to Shady Grove.

“Like a typical politician, Governor Hogan is speaking out of both sides of his mouth on highway tolls,” said Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews.  “The truth is that Governor Hogan wants more tolls on Maryland’s highways, not less, and his scandal-ridden Lexus Lanes will be unaffordable for working families.”
