Mitch McConnell Again Praises “Best Recruit” Republican Larry Hogan

Republicans continue to see Hogan as key to securing the Senate majority and pushing forward extreme agenda

Republican Larry Hogan – who’s repeatedly said he’ll caucus with Republicans – continues to be praised by Senator Mitch McConnell. In a new interview with Punchbowl News this week, McConnell predicted Republicans “[a]re going to win” Senate control while citing Hogan – who he previously called his “best recruit” – as a “fabulous” candidate. 

“National Republicans are backing Hogan because they share a common goal: retaking the Senate majority. Marylanders aren’t going to let Hogan hand the Senate’s 51st seat over to Republicans and their extreme agenda, including banning abortion nationwide,” said Maryland Democratic Party Spokesperson Lindsay Reilly. 

McConnell’s statement echoes comments earlier this week by anti-abortion rights Republican Senator Steve Daines, who chairs the National Republican Senatorial Committee, an organization “solely devoted to strengthening the Republican Senate majority.” Daines told reporters Hogan “is running a great race.”
