ANNAPOLIS, MD – Maryland Democratic Party Chairman Steuart Pittman released the following statement after Governor Wes Moore’s State of the State Address:
Governor Wes Moore continues to deliver on the oath he took to fight on behalf of the people of this state. While Donald Trump fires 25,000 Marylanders, kicks up to 180,000 Marylanders off health care, and rips away food assistance from more than 680,000 Marylanders, we have a Governor in Maryland that uses his power to protect us, deliver for our people, and lead our state.
Three years ago, Maryland’s economy was stagnant, and crime ran rampant throughout the state with Baltimore averaging almost one murder per day. To date, Governor Moore has helped create nearly 100,000 jobs and Maryland has seen over 35,000 new businesses open in our state. Homicides are down nearly 50% statewide and Baltimore has seen some of the greatest and fastest drops in violence in our nation.
As the governor often says, Maryland must build the kind of future that those who came before us fought for and those who come after us deserve–that is the future that he is building for our people. Together, we will continue to work alongside him to ensure we protect our people from Washington’s cruelty, deliver results our people feel, and lead our state in a way that inspires our people to help move Maryland forward.
