New reporting from Semafor reveals that Republican Larry Hogan praised Donald Trump’s Supreme Court picks just months after they helped overturn Roe v. Wade. Hogan – who was personally recruited by anti-choice Republican leader Mitch McConnell to help Republicans regain control of the Senate – has a long history opposing abortion rights, including vetoing legislation in 2022 to expand access to abortion, withholding millions in funding to train abortion providers in the wake of the Court’s leaked decision to overturn Roe, and refusing to sign legislation protecting Maryland clinics from Trump administration efforts to defund Planned Parenthood.
As a Senate candidate, Hogan spent the first four months of his campaign refusing to support legislation to restore Roe v. Wade. Hogan continues to refuse to commit to only supporting judicial nominees who support abortion rights.
