Larry Hogan could be the 51st seat Republicans need to take control of the Senate
On Tuesday, Maryland leaders held a roundtable in Baltimore City on the stakes of Republican Larry Hogan potentially being the 51st seat Republicans need to regain control of the Senate. Elected officials including Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and other community leaders discussed how Hogan could deliver the Senate majority to Republicans and help push forward an extreme agenda that includes banning abortion nationwide, caving to the gun lobby, crushing organized labor, and more.

- The balance of the U.S. Senate hinges on the outcome of the U.S. Senate race in Maryland.
- “Republican leaders are rallying behind Larry Hogan because they know they can count on Hogan to flip control of the Senate,” Darkes said.
- From abortion rights to gun control and workers’ rights, the group maintained that Hogan can’t be trusted.
- Mayor Scott said Vice President Kamala Harris, who has become the Democratic candidate for president, needs Alsobrooks in the U.S. Senate instead of Hogan.
- “What we all have to understand is that this is not just about him, this is about the agenda. This is about the top of the Republican ticket. When you have former President Trump and JD Vance pushing this agenda, they will be able to do it unchecked,” if Republicans have control of the U.S. Senate, Mayor Scott said.
- Hogan’s veto of abortion access legislation was brought up several times throughout the event; while in office, he vetoed a bill that would have expanded who could provide abortions in Maryland, citing health concerns. Democrats in the General Assembly overrode the veto and before leaving office, Hogan withheld the funding for the program. When Gov. Wes Moore assumed office, he released the funds.
- “We’re voting for Angela Alsobrooks because of what she stands for and the policies that she stands for,” Mayor Scott said.

- Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott was once again critical of former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan Tuesday as he joined a roundtable hosted by Maryland Democrats.
- Scott claimed that Hogan took Maryland’s largest city off the map when he canceled the Red Line transit project. He also said Hogan refused to talk with him for months.
- “He canceled a public transportation project taking Baltimore off the map,” Scott said. “He also refused to meet with me for five months to talk about violent crime.”
