Hogan’s attempt to rocket back into headlines fails to launch as social media users call him out for spreading misinformation
Former Governor Hogan hoped to propel himself back into the news when he took to social media Friday night to sound the alarm on a growing threat in the night sky – only to discover the culprits were light-years away. Social media users quickly corrected him, pointing out that the threat he mistook for drones was actually stars.
While the drone story is still developing in New Jersey and across the northeast, leaving more questions than answers, what is clear is that Larry Hogan’s attempt to insert himself into the narrative was proven to be him spreading misinformation.
Accompanying his alarmed post was a two-minute video capturing scattered lights in the night sky.
“Last night, beginning at around 9:45 pm, I personally witnessed (and videoed) what appeared to be dozens of large drones in the sky above my residence in Davidsonville, Maryland (25 miles from our nation’s capital). I observed the activity for approximately 45 minutes,” Hogan wrote.
However, meteorologist Matthew Cappucci swiftly responded to Hogan’s post with a fact-check that has since gone viral. Cappucci clarified that the lights captured in Hogan’s video were none other than the stars of the Orion constellation—a natural and well-known celestial formation.
