After Historic Statewide Results, Governor Moore Proposes Record Funding For Public Safety And K-12 Schools
ANNAPOLIS, MD – Today, Governor Moore proposed a record $124.1 million in funding to support law enforcement and a record $10.2 billion in funding for K-12 schools in the governor’s proposed FY 2027 budget.
“While the legislative process is long and final numbers can change, it’s clear Governor Moore alongside the State Legislature is committed to making our communities safer and ensuring every child in Maryland has the opportunity to have the best public education possible,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chairman Steuart Pittman. “Since Governor Moore took office, it is undeniable that our communities are safer, and our schools are performing better–those historic improvements are what Maryland Democrats will continue to deliver.”
Since the Moore-Miller Administration took office, Maryland Democrats have worked tirelessly together to make our communities safer and now homicides in Maryland have fallen a staggering 44% since then. We’ve also seen homicides are down 58% in Baltimore City and down 39% in Prince George’s County while non-fatal shootings have declined 40% statewide. This comes after three straight record years of funding from Maryland Democrats to our local law enforcement.
In the Governor’s first year in office, he and the State Legislature tackled Maryland’s teacher shortage crisis by passing the Maryland Educator Shortage Reduction Act. Now, just three years later, the teacher vacancy rate has dropped by 58%. Since day one, Governor Moore has been a champion for education, putting record funding into Maryland’s public schools three years in a row. These record investments and historic actions are showing results across the state, with recent reporting showing that statewide, nearly every single grade has made improvements in reading and math scores.
