TODAY: Republican Leadership Candidate John Thune Headlines Fundraiser for Larry Hogan
Republicans continue to see Hogan as key to the Senate majority
South Dakota Senator and candidate for Senate Republican Leader John Thune is headlining a fundraiser tonight for Republican Larry Hogan in Montgomery County, Maryland – less than two weeks before a scheduled pro-Hogan fundraiser headed by Republican Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.
Hogan, who was personally recruited by current Republican Leader Mitch McConnell to help Republicans regain control of the U.S. Senate, has promised to caucus with Republicans and will help push forward Republicans’ extreme agenda, including a nationwide abortion ban.
John Thune is just the latest Republican Senator to see Hogan as key to the Senate majority. In case you missed it:
- Republican Leader Mitch McConnell: “We need more Republicans in order to set the agenda. So I support… Hogan.” (Politico, 6/4/24)
- Republican Senator John Cornyn: “I hope Larry Hogan wins. It’ll mean the difference between being in the minority or majority … And if President Trump wins, as I expect he will, we will all prefer to be in the majority.” (CNN’s Manu Raju, 6/3/24)
- Republican Senator Tom Tillis: “What we don’t want to do is have a scenario where we win the White House and we don’t have a majority in the Senate. That would make no sense at all. President Trump would get nothing done.” (Punchbowl News, 6/4/24)
- Republican Senator Eric Schmitt: “I want him to win.” (The Hill, 6/4/24)
