As we get closer to the June 2nd primary, we’re preparing to move into the next phase of the Delegate Selection process.Â
At-Large, Alternates & PLEOs:
Maryland has a total delegation of 119 delegates to the convention. Of those, 65 will be chosen at the ballot of the June 2nd primary at the congressional district level. After the primary, the next phase will begin.Â
Maryland is allocated 21 At-Large Delegates, 8 Alternates, and 10 pledged Party Leaders and Elected Officials(PLEO). The selection of these delegates will occur at the June 20th Meeting of the Democratic State Central Committee.Â
Prior to the meeting, an application period will be open to any registered Democrat interested in filling these available positions. The application period runs from June 10th through June 16th. Adhering to safety standards during COVID-19, applications will be available for online submission through our website (mddems.org) beginning on June 10.Â
After the application period closes, the MDP will forward all applicants to the presidential campaigns who received a statewide vote total of 15% or higher during the primary for the presidential right of review. Presidential Candidates must receive at least 15% of the statewide vote total in order to be allocated delegates. Prior to the June 20th meeting, the Presidential Campaigns will forward the delegate slate they selected back to the MDP to be voted on at the June 20th meeting. The Presidential Campaigns make the final decision as to who is chosen to appear before the Democratic State Central Committee for confirmation.Â
