Organizing Director

The Maryland Democratic Party is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as Organizing Director. The Organizing Director will lead the organizing and field program to execute a strategic statewide electoral program to elect Democrats in all competitive elections in Maryland.

The Organizing Director serves as the point of contact for all organizing related needs and is responsible for directing the day-to-day organizing operations for the Party. They are responsible for planning and executing the campaign field plan, managing any field staff, and are accountable for all quantitative and qualitative field metrics. This role is under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director and will be based in Maryland.

Utilizing creative and as well as traditional tactics, the Organizing Director will work every day to engage and inspire Democrats in Maryland to volunteer for campaigns and the Party. They will play an important role on our team and will help elect Democratic candidates, protect our Democratic incumbents, and protect the Democratic Senate Majority.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an organizing plan to turn out Democratic and Democratic leaning voters across Maryland through doors, phones, texts, and other means;
  • Develop quantitative and qualitative field metrics and provide consistent reports to senior leadership on goals and trends;
  • In line with the budget and organizational needs, recruit and manage organizers to build up a strong volunteer program, conduct voter contact, and host events;
  • Develop strong relationships with local party leaders, grassroots organizers, and key activists;
  • Conceive and execute regular trainings for organizing staff and volunteers;
  • Coordinate with organizing and field directors from aligned campaigns and organizations to maximize volunteer output;
  • Build and implement systems and structures to lead organizers to successfully meet daily, weekly, and phase goals for capacity building and voter contact, as well as maintain data integrity;
  • Write scripts for phone banks, doors, texts, and other means;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Several cycles of successful organizing and field work on statewide or congressional campaigns or for state parties;
  • Proficiency in VAN/VoteBuilder;
  • Experience with a variety of campaign technology with opinions about what works and what doesn’t;
  • A creative mindset and an eagerness to try new things;
  • Proficient writing ability in both short form and longer form scripts;
  • Political instances to know how different organizing plans will impact and be received by different communities;
  • A proactive mindset – always thinking about who else can be brought into the fold;
  • Ability to work under pressure and under very tight deadlines;
  • Willingness to work campaign hours including nights and weekends;
  • A commitment to Democratic values;

Logistics:

  • This role will have weekly in-person meetings and will be responsible for attending events across Maryland as necessary. Party HQ is located in Annapolis, Maryland which is easily accessible from most areas of the state;
  • Currently, staff is in the office 3 days per week. This schedule may evolve to reflect the needs of the campaign;
  • Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the position will stay posted until a candidate is chosen.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary is commensurate with experience and the budget necessities of the organization. MDP provides medical, dental, and vision to the employee, and 100% cost of coverage is covered. Paid holidays, earned vacation, and sick PTO.
