Protecting Communities

DEMOCRATS ARE FOCUSED ON HELPING ALL COMMUNITIES ACROSS MARYLAND

What challenge are we facing?

Maryland continues to be ravaged by violent crime, especially in our vulnerable communities in Baltimore City. In all his wisdom, the GOP governor directed the State Police to no longer require a ‘good and substantial reason’ from someone seeking to carry a gun. This came barely a month after innocent children were gunned down in a school. The other side is giving MORE rights and MORE access to gun owners. They’ve evolved from offering thoughts and prayers, to simply enabling the gunman. Our state has seen far too much gun violence and we’ve lost far too many young Marylanders to this issue. This is directly harmful to our communities, our law enforcement, and the safety of our children. It’s disgusting and unacceptable. As we saw in Uvalde last month. As we saw in Buffalo this year, and Highland Park this Summer. As we saw in Boulder, Dayton, El Paso, Virginia Beach, Aurora, Pittsburgh, Parkland, Sutherland Springs, Las Vegas, and as we saw in a newsroom here in Annapolis when five innocent Marylanders were murdered, access to guns never needs to be made easier, it needs to be stricter.

What have MD Dems Delivered?

Our Democratic Mayor in Baltimore has created several programs to boost the communities, especially young Baltimoreans, and reduce violent crime. And our Democratic legislators in Annapolis banned unregistered, untraceable ghost guns this year and planned a system that will make it easier for law enforcement to trace guns used in illegal activity. It was one step in the right direction, but there’s always more work to do. Voting in a Democratic Governor will ensure that the Governor’s House no longer turns a blind eye to the struggles in Baltimore. A Democratic Governor can give tools and resources to our underserved communities, rather than pull the rug out from under them.
