Voter Protection Director
The Maryland Democratic Party is seeking a Voter Protection Director to ensure that all eligible Marylanders are able to cast their ballot. Our right to vote is fundamental to all that we hope to accomplish; the Voter Protection Director is a crucial role that will develop, implement, and manage a robust voter protection program, ensuring free and fair elections in Maryland.
Duties and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- Plan and implement a comprehensive voter protection plan to identity and triage voting issues.
- Work with local Democratic Central Committees, Dem Clubs/Organizations, and other partners, collaborate with appropriate parties at every level of government to implement a voter protection program ahead of the 2022 Election.
- Design and supervise the execution of poll watcher programs for Elections.
- Recruit volunteer attorneys to monitor the elections during the early vote and election day at the local boards of elections.
- Identify potential threats to the franchise and mobilize a coordinated response within the Party, including communications and press.
- Manage our statewide Voter Protection and Engagement Committee.
- Ensure that the Voter Protection Hotline provides top-quality service to voters by supervising trainings, operations, reporting, and issue resolution.
- Serve as a statewide resource and point person for questions relating to voter suppression, intimidation, or efforts aimed at disenfranchising voters of Maryland.
- Ability to work long, irregular hours, including Saturdays and Sundays.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable access to transportation.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to stand up large-scale, diverse volunteer organizations that effectively deliver results by motivating and holding volunteers accountable for their goals.
- Juris Doctor preferred
- Prior political organizing or campaign experience, particularly experience in
Voter protection or Field preferred:
- Local knowledge, including familiarity with Maryland politics and stakeholders preferred
- Proficiency in Votebuilder/VAN and LBJ preferred
Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time position through the 2022 November election. Monthly salary ranges are from $4,500 – $5,500 commensurate on the quality and breadth of experience the successful candidate brings to the table, and includes a generous benefits package.
