The Maryland Democratic Party is seeking an experienced Voter Access Director to ensure all Marylanders have access to the ballot.
As the Voter Access Director, you are responsible for crafting and executing a data-driven program with the mission of ensuring that eligible voters can cast their ballots and that their ballots are counted. You will plan and lead the implementation of a variety of tactics to build volunteer capacity and develop leadership. You will collaborate with the Organizing, Data, and Digital Directors to execute voter protection projects.
This position is based in New Carrollton, Maryland, and reports directly to the Coordinated Campaign Director.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, produce, and disseminate complete accessible, and accurate voting information;
- Plan and implement a comprehensive voter protection plan to identify and triage voting issues;
- Recruit, train, manage, and serve as a resource for poll observers, hotline volunteers, boiler room personnel, county liaisons, and other volunteers during Early Vote, Election Day, and during ballot canvassing;
- Build relationships with election officials and stakeholders to lead strategies expanding access and combating intrusions to voting;
- Collaborate with other departments of the coordinated campaign to ensure the voter protection department is fully integrated into the coordinated campaign;
- Support appropriate legal or non-legal tactics to resolve voting problems;
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- At least two cycles of statewide organizing, political, coalitions or voter protection departments;
- Strong commitment to Democratic values and enthusiasm for electing Angela Alsobrooks and Democrats up and down the ballot;
- Proficiency in VAN/VoteBuilder, LBJ experience is a bonus but not required;
- Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including elected officials, community leaders, grasstops, staff, and volunteers;
- Ability to build cohesive plans and oversee implementation;
- Highly communicative – responsive to internal and external requests, emails, and calls, within reason;
- Incredibly organized, with a strong attention to detail;
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends;
- You have access to reliable transportation and are willing to travel frequently.
Employment Type: Full-time
Compensation: Salaried position of $7,500 to $8,500 per month based on experience with full benefits including health, dental, vision and PTO. This position’s schedule will vary based on the needs of the campaign and will require evening and weekend work over the course of the election cycle. Housing will not be provided. This position is at-will employment.
