Meet Coordinated Campaign Co-Chair Susan Turnbull

Susan Turnbull has dedicated close to 40 years to community activism through both political
and philanthropic efforts. In 2018, after decades of political involvement, Susan was chosen as the Democratic Nominee
for Lt. Governor of the State of Maryland, running on a ticket with former NAACP CEO Ben
Jealous. Over the year she traveled 21,000 miles across the State of Maryland meeting and
engaging with voters.

Susan was Maryland’s Democratic National Committeewoman for 19 years and during that time served as DNC Vice Chair, Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party and Chair of the DNC Women’s Leadership Forum and DNC Women’s Caucus. In these roles she was a frequent
guest on international, national and local TV and radio and campaigned across the country for
candidates up and down the ballot and as a surrogate in the 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008
elections. Susan has been a leader helping elect women to office for more than two decades having served on the National Board of Emerge America and was one of the founders of Emerge Maryland a training program for Democratic women considering running for office.

Professionally, Susan has published a Federal Grants Newsletter for Members of Congress for
over a decade after serving for several years as a senior Hill staffer, Washington Representative
for a large mid-west consortium and as a professional political fundraiser. Previously she has
also been employed as a Commercial Interior Designer and project manager in Washington,
D.C. and Maryland.

Susan is a Board Member of Integrity First for America which was instrumental in the lawsuit
against the conspirators of the Charlottesville disturbances in 2017. In the fall of 2021, IFA won
a historic victory against the white supremacist groups and individuals who conspired for months
to bring violence to the streets of Charlottesville and has served as a model for other lawsuits
combatting hate. Previously, Susan served two terms as Chair of Jewish Women
International, Chaired the Jewish Council for Public Affairs and was a Member of the Executive
Committee of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations.

Susan has a vibrant social media presence and is a contributor to two books on Women’s
Leadership, “Pirkei Imahot: The Wisdom of the Mothers” compiled by Lois Shenker; and
“Secrets of Powerful Women: Leading Change for a New Generation” compiled by Lifetime TV.
A Cleveland, Ohio native, Susan is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in
Urban Affairs, of the University of Maryland with a M.A. in Urban Studies and of Marymount
University with a B.A. in Interior Design.

Susan and her husband Bruce live in Bethesda, Maryland where they raised their family. She is
extremely proud of their two married sons, two daughters-in-law and four young grandchildren.
